Salt Lake City, Utah – An independent team of public and private professionals
dedicated to the sustainability of Utah's new and renovated facilities are joining forces to
host the 5th Annual Salt Lake Sustainable Building Conference. The conference will be
held on Thursday April 8th, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Salt Palace Convention
Center at 100 South West Temple in Salt Lake City. “2010 Desert Green” is a full-day
of keynote speakers, presentations, panels, and case-studies from local, national, and
international professionals on high performance building and the way sustainable
practices are transforming the design and operation of modern facilities. Sustainable
building, also known as high performance building, encompasses the design and
construction of facilities that are energy efficient, environmentally sound, economical to
operate and maintain, and are healthy for occupants.
More than 400 architects, engineers, contractors, developers, facility managers,
government employees, planners, subcontractors, and suppliers are expected to attend
this year’s conference. This is a must attend event that continually sells out.
The conference kicks off with Keynote Speaker Janine Benyus, author of Biomimicry:
Innovation Inspired by Nature. Janine Benyus is a natural sciences writer, innovation
consultant, and author of six books. In Biomimicry, she names an emerging discipline
that seeks sustainable solutions by emulating nature's designs and processes (e.g.,
solar cells that mimic leaves, agriculture that models a prairie, businesses that run like
redwood forests).
